This usually results in increased tolerance and sometimes physical withdrawal state.   Psychoactive substance use can lead to dependence syndrome which is a cluster of behavioral, cognitive, and psychological phenomena that develops after repeated substance use. This means that substance abuse is a disease and cannot be overcome by willpower.  Substance addiction has stigmas that ways victims down, creating a big burden, clouding the sense as though there is no way out.  Admitting addiction is not a weakness, but no seeking HELP, is a total loss of ego.
